Severe Injuries Reported for Two Pedestrians Struck by Vehicle in Newark

Two pedestrians were rushed to University Hospital after they were struck by a vehicle on a busy roadway in Newark’s South Ward early Friday morning.

The incident occurred in the area of 104 Empire Street, where emergency crews found two victims suffering injuries. 

According to preliminary reports, one of the victims was in traumatic arrest when first responders arrived and CPR was initiated at the scene.

 

Both victims were transported to University Hospital for treatment.

 

The circumstances leading up to the crash remain under active investigation by the Newark Police Department. 

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office has also been notified and is assisting in the investigation.

 

As of 4:45 a.m., authorities have not confirmed any fatalities.
