Passaic County authorities are investigating the cause of an overnight crash that involved several vehicles and shut down part of a major highway, officials said.

According to preliminary reports, the collision occurred around 12:20 a.m. Saturday in the eastbound lanes of U.S. Route 46 near Union Boulevard.
Responding officers arrived to find as many as four vehicles involved in the crash, including one that had reportedly overturned.
Emergency medical crews were called to the scene to assist the injured occupants. It was not immediately clear whether any of the injuries were life-threatening.
Police closed off a section of the highway while investigators examined the scene and cleared the wreckage.
The cause of the crash remains under active investigation by Passaic County authorities.
