A heavy police response converged on Newark’s South Ward Wednesday night after a burst of gunfire left as many as four people shot—two of them fatally, outside a recording studio on Clinton Avenue.
According to preliminary reports, the violence erupted just before 8:30 p.m. in the vicinity of 790 Clinton Avenue, Platinum Sounds where witnesses said multiple rounds echoed through the neighborhood.
Responding officers arrived to find a chaotic scene and several victims down.
Two individuals were pronounced dead at the location. The remaining victims were rushed to University Hospital for emergency treatment.
Police cordoned off the area as detectives located multiple weapons scattered around the scene, indicating a tumultuous exchange of gunfire.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office has been notified and is responding to lead the investigation.
Authorities have not confirmed additional details, including motives or suspects, and it is unclear whether more victims may be connected to the shooting.
