Several Displaced in Early Morning East Orange Fire

There were no injuries reported in a fire that damaged a house in early this morning in East Orange.

Firefighters were called to the 200 block of North Grove near Vernon Place at around 4:30 a.m. after they received calls at a fire at that location.

Upon arrival, they found smoke coming from a two and a half story wood framed home at 247 North Grove officials said.

Crews were able to pinpoint the seat of the blaze to an electrical fixture on the first floor but flames rapidly extended to the upper levels of the home.

Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control in about an hour where a search for injured occupants came back negative.

The American Red Cross provided temporary shelter for several displaced occupants.

The official cause of the fire is under investigation.
