Police in Newark are investigating an assault that caused severe injuries for a person in the city's Ironbound section early Monday morning.
According to preliminary reports, the attack happened shortly before 3:45 a.m. in the single digit block of Wilson Avenue where dispatchers alerted officers of a person bleeding heavily at that location.
Units arrived and found the unidentified victim suffering injuries after someone bit off a portion their ear during an altercation that occurred before police arrived.
EMS transported the victim to University Hospital for the non-life threatening injury while police continued to investigate the motive for the incident.
There were no official reports of any arrests made.
