Separate Overnight Shootings Injure Four Citywide in Newark

A violent overnight in Newark where several victims were struck by bullets in separate communities now has police searching for suspects.

It one of the earlier shootings that we've reported, a man was rushed to University Hospital after a suspect approached then opened fire on him in the vicinity of South Orange and West End avenues at around 6:10 p.m.

Police taped off the area where they searched for evidence to support their investigation.

In another incident, at approximately 9:24 p.m., reports of shots fired had to police in the 80's block of Lincoln Park where they found a male victim suffering a gunshot wound at that location.

EMS were called to the scene to rush the victim to University Hospital for a gunshot wound to the victim's stomach. The suspect reportedly ran from the scene.

A shooting in the city's South Ward, at approximately 9:26 p.m., had officials at Beth Israel Hospital contact police when a male victim who suffered an apparent gunshot wound to the shoulder enter the emergency room.

The victim reported to police that he was shot in the vicinity of Aldine and Goldsmith shortly before arriving at the hospital.

Police canvassed the area for a crime scene, but there were no immediate reports of shell casings or other evidence found.

In an early morning shooting incident, police and EMS rushed to the 300 block of 7th Avenue after they received reports of shots fired at around 3 a.m.

Upon arrival at the scene, they found a male victim suffering a gunshot wound to the thigh according to reports.

EMS transported the victim to University Hospital for treatment while police searched the area for a suspect.

There were no fatalities reported in any of the shootings.
