A Senator's Legacy Remembered: Honoring African American Hero, Role Model From Newark

New Jersey

By: Richard L. Smith

As we wake up on this rainy 28th day of February and  RLS Media's 29-day commemoration honoring black figures in New Jersey, we pay tribute to the indomitable legacy of former New Jersey Senator Ronald L. Rice Sr.Real EstateOne of my all-time favorites, my first West Ward Little League baseball coach and role model. Mr. Rice was never too big or proud to engage in conversation with anyone at any time.

As a steadfast champion for the residents of Newark and parts of Essex County, he never hesitated to express his views, advocating tirelessly for the betterment of New Jersey residents.

Renowned as the longest-serving Black Senator in the state's history, Rice's impact resonates far beyond the legislative halls.

Ron

Senator Rice's journey epitomized resilience and determination. A dedicated public servant, he tirelessly championed the rights of his constituents, particularly those in Newark and parts of Essex County.

From his tenure as a Newark City Council member to his leadership in the State Senate, Rice remained staunch in his commitment to justice and equality.Real EstateEACH ONE TEACH ONE: Beyond his political career, Rice's influence extended to the principles of real community mentorship. As my Little League baseball coach in Newark's West Ward, he inspired countless young boys, serving as a father figure and guiding light in some of our lives.

Throughout his admired career, Rice fearlessly confronted racial injustice and systemic inequality issues.

His advocacy for civilian review boards and relentless pursuit of racial justice legislation underscored his continued dedication to his community.

Ron Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo aptly captured Rice's enduring impact, hailing him as a "trailblazer and icon" who illuminated the path toward equality and justice.

Although Senator Rice may have departed from this world, his legacy continues to shine brightly, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of those he served.

As RLS Media honors his memory, we celebrate a life dedicated to service, compassion, and the pursuit of a better tomorrow.

Senator Rice, your impact on the West Ward made growing up so much more comfortable. Few embody your qualities today. Thank you, and much love, sir.
