Senator Robert Menendez Again Under Federal Investigation

New Jersey

By: Richard L. Smith

New Jersey Sen. Robert Menendez is under federal criminal investigation in New York, federal authorities sources confirmed on Wednesday.

As first reported by Kadia Goba, Political Reporter for Semafor, a longtime political adviser to the New Jersey Democrat Michael Soliman texted the following:

"Senator Menendez is aware of an investigation that was reported on today, however, he does not know the scope of the investigation,"

Although the scope and circumstances in the current investigation have not been made official by federal officials, Senator Menendez was indicted in 2015 for an alleged arrangement under which the doctor provided flights on a private jet and lavish vacations in exchange for the senator's help with government contracts and other public favors.

In 2017, the jury was deadlocked on the inquiry, and the case resulted in a mistrial.

It is unclear if this latest investigation involves similar allegations.

First elected to Congress in 1993 to represent New Jersey's 13th Congressional District, Menendez ran for the Senate over a decade later.

According to November 8, 2022, Hudson County General Election sample ballot,  Senator Menendez is currently seeking election as a democrat for the House of Representatives on column 1B. His republican challenger is Marcos Arroyo in column 1A.
