Secret Compartment with $67K, Fentanyl Found During East Rutherford Car Stop

Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Dennis Calo announced the arrest of Fermin A. Castillo, 38, of Miami, Florida on charges of Money Laundering and Possession of Fentanyl.

According to authorities, on July 6th, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, as part of an investigation, conducted a traffic stop on a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Castillo on Route 3 West in East Rutherford.

Officials say a search of the Jeep revealed an electronically operated hidden compartment in the rear floor that contained just over $67,000.00 and a small amount of Fentanyl.

Police arrested Castillo and charged him with one count of Money Laundering and one count of Possession Of A Controlled Substance.

According to authorities, Castillo is scheduled for a first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, on July 25th.

Acting Prosecutor Dennis Calo states that these charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
