Second Woman Raped at Knifepoint in Jersey City on Monday

According to authorities, on Monday, shortly after 2:40 a.m., Jersey City Police Officers responded to a report of sexual assault in the area of Westside Avenue and Union Street in Jersey City.

Officials say responding police officers found a woman in that area who alleged that she was a victim of a sexual assault.

The woman was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center for medical attention according to officials.

The initial investigation by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the Jersey City Police Department revealed that the woman, a 27-year-old from Jersey City, had contact with a man on Westside Avenue who offered to give her a ride home.

After following him on foot to an unknown area, officials say the man allegedly used a knife to hold her and sexually assaulted her.

Officials say this was the second sexual assault reported on Monday involving a weapon identified as a knife.

Detectives are actively investigating both cases.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit is actively investigating this case with assistance from the Jersey City Police Department. No arrests have been made at this time.
