Newark firefighters teamed with The Kearny Fire Department to search the Passiac River after authorities received reports of a body floating near Riverbank Park around 5 p.m.

Choppy waves and moderate currents quickly moved the body northbound towards the Bridge and Clay street bridges, where rescue crews managed to recover the unidentified person.

The body was taken to a drop-off location behind the Vermella Apartments (across the street from the Kearny ShopRite  Center), where Newark detectives arrived and launched an investigation.

On Tuesday, the body of a woman was recovered from the river. Witnesses believe the woman was homeless and entered the water.

No foul play has been reported for either incident and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office has not announced involvement at this time.

Police are investigating both incidents.
