Search for Vehicle That Attempted to Ram Rutgers University Police Car in Newark

Authorities in Newark issued a be on the look to surrounding for a vehicle that attempted to ram a Rutgers University Police Vehicle in Newark on Christmas night.

According to preliminary reports, police are looking for a white 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee that fled the scene after the driver ignored police attempts to pull it over.

Reports say the driver recklessly drove towards the police cruiser, nearly striking it, in an attempt to evade capture in the area of Central Avenue and Washington Street.

The Jeep has a reported NJ license plate number "N11-KPJ" and was occupied by 3-4 passengers.

The same vehicle is also wanted for leading Newark Police on a brief pursuit in the area of West Peddie Street where the driver drove at a high rate of speed then entered the westbound lanes of I-78. Police broke off the pursuit a shortly after it begun.

There were no injuries reported to police officers.
