According to the National Weather Service, today’s temperatures are expected to reach record-breaking highs, with a forecasted high near 102 degrees and heat index values soaring as high as 107.

The heat is anticipated to be even more hazardous than Tuesday’s conditions, prompting warnings for residents to limit outdoor activity and take extreme precautions.

As of early Tuesday morning, downtown Newark was already sweltering at 81 degrees with high humidity and barely any wind.

Meteorologists warn that even the light breeze expected today—5 to 7 mph out of the west—will offer little relief and could feel like "a blow torch" on exposed skin.

Experts advise residents to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged outdoor exposure, and seek out air-conditioned spaces when possible. Cooling centers remain open throughout the city for those in need.

Tonight, conditions will remain warm, with a mostly clear sky and lows around 81 degrees.

This ongoing heatwave is expected to last through Wednesday night, with a break in conditions anticipated later in the week.

Town officials continue to monitor the situation and encourage the public to check on vulnerable neighbors and family members.
