Middlesex County authorities are investigating a police-involved shooting that left a man hospitalized following a confrontation in Sayreville Saturday evening.
According to information released by Middlesex County Prosecutor Linda Estremera and Sayreville Police Chief Daniel Plumacker, officers responded to the Kendall Drive area of Parlin at approximately 6:15 p.m. on August 22 after receiving reports of a disorderly man armed with a knife who was allegedly threatening people and a vehicle in the neighborhood.
Authorities said an officer encountered the armed man upon arrival and ordered him to drop the knife. Investigators said the man ignored those commands and advanced toward the officer, prompting the officer to discharge his firearm and strike him.
The man was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick for treatment. His current condition was not disclosed.
Officials said the man was also charged with several offenses related to alleged conduct that occurred before police arrived.
The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office designated the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office as the independent agency handling the investigation.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
