A Rutgers University dean has been arrested and charged after investigators allegedly discovered “upskirt” videos on one of his electronic devices, state officials announced.
According to information released by New Jersey Attorney General Jennifer Davenport and the Division of Criminal Justice, Joshua Kohut, 51, of Cranbury, was charged by complaint with fourth-degree invasion of privacy.
Kohut serves as dean of research at Rutgers University’s School of Environmental and Biological Sciences.
State officials allege Kohut used a mobile phone to secretly record underneath a victim’s clothing without the person’s knowledge.
Authorities executed a search warrant on August 24 and seized several of Kohut’s devices.
During a preliminary forensic examination, investigators allegedly found videos showing another individual’s undergarment-clad intimate areas.
Attorney General Davenport called the alleged conduct a disturbing invasion of privacy and said the state intends to prosecute the case.
A fourth-degree offense carries a potential sentence of up to 18 months in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
