Rt. 21 Crash Seriously Injures Two in Newark

An overnight crash that seriously injured two people in Newark is under investigation.

Rescue crews rushed to the northbound side of Rt. 21 near the Grafton Ave. exit at around 1:15 a.m. after receiving several calls of a car that crash into a portion of the bridge with occupants possibly trapped.

Crews arrived to the scene where they located a heavily damaged vehicle with two victims seriously injured and trapped inside.

Newark firefighters, University Hospital Rescue Crews, and Newark Emergency Services Unit used several techniques to eventually free the occupants who were released to EMS, then transported to University Hospital where their injuries were reported as critical but stable as of 5:30 a.m.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Newark Police Department.
