A Roseland police officer was hospitalized following a vehicle crash that occurred around 4 p.m. Friday near the intersection of Livingston Avenue and Becker Farms Road, authorities said.
According to information released by the Roseland Police Department, Officers Greg Matesic and Rob Bell were involved in the collision while traveling in the same police vehicle.
Officer Matesic sustained injuries and was transported to University Hospital in Newark for treatment.
Officer Bell was also evaluated, though no additional details regarding his condition have been provided.
Mayor James Spango issued a public statement following the incident, asking residents to keep the injured officer and his family in their thoughts and prayers.
“At approximately 4 p.m., a motor vehicle accident occurred involving a Roseland police officer in the area of Livingston Avenue and Becker Farm Road,” Mayor Spango stated.
“The officer is being transported to UMDNJ for evaluation and treatment. The Borough asks that you keep the officer and his family in your thoughts and prayers. Updates from the Borough will be released as needed.”

As of now, no further updates have been released on the officers’ conditions.
