Police officials in Newark canvassed the scene searching for an armed suspect who took person possessions from a person near a school in the city Thursday.
According to authorities, police responded to the vicinity of 13th Avenue and South 10th Street to investigate reports of an armed robbery in progress that occurred at approximately 4:15 p.m.
Police say the victim was approached by an unidentified male suspect who demanded his bookbag and cash.
The suspects reportedly took the items then fled westbound on 13th Avenue toward south South 12th Street.
There were no physical injuries immediately reported.
