Rifle Shell Casings Recovered at Newark South Ward Shooting Scene

Newark Police are investigating a shots-fired incident in the city's South Ward late Thursday night. 

Police say at approximately 11:40 p.m., gunfire rang out in the area on 281 Pomona Avenue, sending officers to the scene to investigate. 

Upon arrival, police found several shell casings, but no victims were found after a search of the area. 

Police say an armed suspect fired a rifle at unknown targets before fleeing the scene. 

Authorities notified medical centers in the region to be on the lookout for potential walk-in gunshot victims, but as of 4 a.m., there were no injuries reported. 

The shooting is under investigation by Newark Police.
