Reward Offered for Information in Three Newark Homicides

Newark -- Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, announced today that Essex County Sheriff Armando Fontoura’s Crime Stoppers Program is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for each case for information regarding three unsolved homicides.

Officials say, on Sept. 14, at approximately 2:50 p.m. Jason Duffy and Hassan Ward, both 30, were shot and killed in the Oscar Myles Housing Complex.

According to officials, in a possible unrelated case, on Oct. 28, at approximately 7 p.m. Avent Holston, 27, of Newark was fatally shot in the 300 block of West Kinney Street. Holston was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:41 p.m.

Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, is investigating all three of these fatal shootings.
