Hillside Police officials are investigating an armed carjacking that occurred on Monday.

According to police, at approximately 5 p.m., officers responded to a report of a carjacking on Hiawatha Avenue.  “

Units arrived and found the victim, who reported that while unloading grocery bags from the trunk of their vehicle, they observed a white car pull up next to her in the street.

Hillside Police said at least one suspect stayed in the white vehicle while another male suspect got out brandishing a handgun and demanded the keys to the victims’ car.

Police say the victim handed over the keys to the suspect, and the victims were not physically injured.

Within an hour, Hillside Police said police recovered the victims' vehicle in Newark.

The suspect’s white vehicle, a Kia stolen from Newark, was also recovered later that same evening in Newark.

The investigation is ongoing.
