Report of Weapon Inside Livingston High School Forces Lockdown

A high school in Essex County was locked down for security reasons after authorities received reports of a weapon inside the building Monday.

According to police,  Livingston High School was put on lockdown at 11:30 am for approximately 25 minutes while police conducted a thorough investigation, but no weapon nor threat to LHS was found.

"We take these matters very seriously, and the district followed all of the safety protocols that are practiced regularly with the Livingston Police Department," district officials said in a statement. 

After the lockdown, police said students and staff were made aware of the situation and that there was no danger to the school.

Officials would not say how they obtained information on the threat. 

The incident is under investigation.
