Newark and North Jersey region residents are waking up to a cool, overcast Mother’s Day, with light rain dampening the morning celebrations.NinosAccording to the National Weather Service, the day has started off on a rainy note, courtesy of Mother Nature, who seems to have her own plans for this special day.

NWS meteorologists say showers are expected mainly before 11 a.m., but the rain will clear out, paving the way for a more pleasant afternoon.

Despite the improving weather, temperatures will remain on the cooler side, with a high near 56 degrees.

A light southeast wind of around 6 mph will accompany the day, so jackets will be necessary for those planning outdoor celebrations, such as lunches or dinners, to keep moms warm and stylish in their beautiful outfits.

According to NWS forecasters, the chance of precipitation stands at 60%, with new rainfall amounts ranging between a tenth and a quarter of an inch.

As the evening approaches, the skies will become partly cloudy, and temperatures will dip to a low of around 45 degrees.

Have a fantastic Mother’s Day, and enjoy the festivities once the rain subsides!
