Rain, Flood Warnings Continue as Newark Starts a Cooler Tuesday

Newark

By: Richard L. Smith

Good morning, New Jersey. We are waking up to a much different start to the day across Newark and the North Jersey region after rounds of heavy rain, thunderstorms, and flooding concerns moved through the area overnight.

As of 4:30 a.m., temperatures in downtown Newark were sitting at 71 degrees.

While the worst of the heavy rainfall appears to be behind us, flood warnings remain in effect in some locations, and periods of rain continue to fall across much of North Jersey.

Some communities are still experiencing moderate to heavy showers early this morning, with the steadiest rain expected to taper off around sunrise.

Even so, residents should keep umbrellas close by, as on-and-off showers are expected through much of the morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service, showers and thunderstorms are likely before 11 a.m., followed by additional showers and the possibility of thunderstorms through the afternoon.

Skies will remain mostly cloudy with a high temperature near 74 degrees.

Northerly winds will range from 6 to 9 mph, and rainfall totals could add another quarter to one-half inch in some locations.

Conditions are expected to gradually improve Tuesday evening. Forecasters are calling for a 30 percent chance of showers before 8 p.m., followed by decreasing clouds and overnight lows around 61 degrees.

Motorists should continue to use caution on area roadways, especially in locations where standing water remains from overnight storms.

Have a safe and pleasant Tuesday, New Jersey.
