Rahway Woman Caught with Loaded Guns Following Vehicle Stop in Newark

Authorities announced the arrest of a 21-year-old Rahway woman found in possession of two loaded handguns during a vehicle stop.

According to police, at approximately 9:15 p.m., police patrolling the 900-block of Franklin Avenue, near the Stephen Crane Village Housing Complex, conducted a motor vehicle stop of a vehicle operating in violation of motor vehicle laws.

Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer detected a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. The driver, Dayana Valderrama, 21, of Rahway, who failed to present a driver’s license, was observed with a loaded 9MM handgun - reported stolen out of West Virginia - inside the vehicle. A second firearm, a loaded .40 caliber handgun, was also recovered, according to police.

Officers arrested and charged Valderrama with two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of Prohibited Ammunition (hollow point bullet), Possession of Ma rijuana, Possession of CDS (Promethazine Cough Syrup) and Receiving Stolen Property.

In addition, Valderrama also issued various traffic summonses, including Failure to Exhibit a Driver’s License, Posssesion of CDS While in a Motor Vehicle, Failure to Exhibit an Insurance Card and Failure to Exhibit a Registration.

These charges are merely accusations. The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
