Union County authorities have made an announcement today regarding charges filed against a Rahway resident, Mr. Keon Hagans, 44, in connection with a sexual assault that transpired in the Squires Island section of Rahway Park on River Road.
According to Union County officials, the incident occurred during the afternoon of Wednesday, September 20, and has led to Hagans being charged with fourth-degree sexual contact.
On the aforementioned day at approximately 2:50 p.m., Union County Police Officers received a report of a suspicious event at Rahway Park.
Responding swiftly to the call, officers arrived at the scene and met with the victim, who recounted a distressing encounter.
According to the victim, while she was walking through the park, she had been subjected to inappropriate physical contact by an unknown male.
Following a diligent investigation, Union County authorities proceeded to take action.
On Wednesday, October 4, officials said Hagans was arrested at his residence pursuant to an active warrant.
Members of the Union County Police Investigations Unit executed the arrest, and Hagans was subsequently processed before being placed in the Union County Jail.
As of the present, he remains in detention, awaiting court proceedings related to the charges filed against him.
The investigation into this troubling incident was led by the Union County Police Department, with invaluable assistance provided by the Rahway Police Department and the Prosecutor's Office Special Victims Unit.
Chief Mogensen expressed his gratitude for the dedicated efforts of investigators that facilitated Hagans' quick identification and apprehension.
As the investigation comes to a close, it awaits the upcoming court proceedings.
