A car that ignited in fire then exploded on a Rahway street overnight has police investigating the official cause.
According to preliminary reports, police and firefighters were called to the 1300 block Witherspoon Street at approximately 12:40 a.m. after several 911 calls reported a car fire with possible injuries.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find a fully involved vehicle that ultimately exploded during the course of the fire.
Fire officials are investigating why the vehicle was carrying propane tanks in the truck.
Crews were able to swiftly extinguish the blaze then search the car for trapped and injured occupants with both coming back negative.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
