Pursuit Ends in Crash, Arrest of Teens Wanted for Violent Carjackngs in Newark

A late night pursuit of a vehicle that was carjacked in the city had cops take several teens into custody according to reports.

Officers from the Essex County Sheriff's Department began to follow a vehicle that was reportedly carjacked earlier in the day and refused to stop for their lights and sirens.

The vehicle, occupied by several suspects, began to speed through neighborhoods where it ultimately came to an end in the area of South 10th Street and Central Avenue where the vehicle struck a vehicle in the area then four suspects bailed out reports said.

Police in a foot pursuit were able to apprehend three of the teens while the remaining suspect is at-large.

The suspects, who are between the ages of 15-17, were wanted for what it is believed to be about four carjackings that occurred in the city on Saturday which also included the carjacking of an elderly man reports said.

EMS were called to the scene for minor injuries to an occupant of a civilian vehicle that was involved in the crash and a police officer.

Police are investigating the incident.
