Pursuit of Carjacked Vehicle Ends in Newark Police Car Crash

Two Police officers suffered non-life-threatening injuries after a pursuit ended in a crash in a section of Newark on Monday night. 

The crash happened around 9:22 p.m. on South 9th Street and South Orange Avenue, which is just at the border of Newark's Central and West wards. 

According to preliminary reports, police attempted to pull over a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee near Roseville and Bloomfield avenues that was confirmed carjacked and had NJ license plate numbers "L24-KMG". 

Police say the driver sped away and led officers on a high-speed pursuit te touched off in several of the city's wards. 

The pursuit ended when officers crashed near the intersection, resulting in the driver of the suspected carjacked vehicle easily escaping. 

Police say the injured officers were taken to University Hospital, where they are expected to survive. 

The driver of the carjacked vehicle remains at large.
