It’s a windy start to the day across Newark and the North Jersey region, where gusts reaching up to 45 miles per hour have caused scattered power outages and downed trees overnight.

Good morning, New Jersey, and hold onto your hats.
As of early Friday, roughly 12,000 homes and businesses remain without power due to strong overnight winds that toppled trees and damaged utility lines across the state.
In Watchung, a large tree came down near Watchung Hills High School, potentially affecting morning travel and school operations.
Similar reports of wind-related damage have been received across northern New Jersey, particularly in Bergen County, where crews are working to clear debris and restore service.
According to the National Weather Service, a Wind Advisory remains in effect for the region. Today will be sunny but brisk, with a high near 53 degrees and northwest winds between 14 and 18 mph, gusting up to 38 mph.
Tonight will be partly cloudy with temperatures dropping to around 37 degrees.
