Possible Lightning Strike Causes Multi-Alarm House Fire in Montclair

Fire officials in Montclair are trying to determine if lightning struck a house and caused a multi-alarm blaze at a location in the scene overnight.

According to preliminary reports, firefighters rushed to the 16 Bradford Avenue after receiving reports of a fire just before midnight. Crews arrived at the scene and noticed smoke and flames coming from the roof and attic of the three-story wood-framed house.

Firefighters were able to enter the home where they checked for trapped and injured occupants, but no one was found inside the structure.

Fire officials struck second and third alarms for manpower as flames continued to spread between the second and third floors of the homes.

Firefighters managed to bring the fire under control in about an hour with no injuries reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
