Police: Woman Found in Jersey City Lake is Not Missing Newark Woman

The body of a woman found inside a lake in Jersey City has been confirmed not to be missing Newark woman Ms. Venika Williams, 28, of Newark who has been missing for 15-months police officials said.

According to Jersey City officials, officers responded to Lincoln Park lake on Sunday morning after they received reports of a body floating in the water.

Police say although the identity of the decedent, as well as the cause and manner of death, have not yet been determined, officials have confirmed that the woman is not Venika. The woman was only determined to be white or Hispanic.

According to Newark Police, Ms, Williams went missing on December 22, 2017, and was believed to be headed to Jersey City wearing a black leather coat, blue jeans, red sneakers, and carrying a red purse.

Police officials knocked down rumors that surfaced around social media that the woman found in Jersey City on Sunday was Venika.

Police say Williams is 5'3" tall and weighs about 142 lbs with brown eyes and hair.
