Police in Newark peacefully ended a standoff with a man who locked himself inside a home in the city’s North Ward on Tuesday.
Interim Newark Public Safety Director Raul Malave said at approximately 3:30 p.m. yesterday, Newark Police responded to the 600 block of N. 8th Street on a call of a man threatening to harm himself and making other violent threats.
According to police officers, after multiple attempts to de-escalate the victim, members of the Newark Police Emergency Services Unit entered the residence and deployed OC-spray to subdue the man just before 7 p.m.
Police say he was transported to University Hospital for crisis care.
No serious injuries were reported.
