Police Shoots Attacking Dog in Newark's West Ward

A police involved shooting that had a dog shot in Newark's West Ward has authorities investigating.

According to authorities, police responded to the 80's block of Smith Street at around 11:15 p.m. on reports of a dispute between several individuals at that location.

Police said, arriving officers located the disputing parties and began to separate them when an unleashed dog charged attempting to go on the attack.

An officer fired one round, striking the dog and causing injuries authorities said.

The shooting is under investigation.

There were no injuries to officers.
