Police Seek Suspect Who Slashed Newark Ironbound Walgreens’ Store Employee After Shoplifting

Authorities are asking for the public’s help identifying a suspect who allegedly cut a store employee with a knife during a shoplifting incident in Newark.
 

According to Emanuel Miranda Sr., the incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. on March 28, 2026, at a Walgreens location on Ferry Street.
 

Officials said the suspect entered the store with a woman and four children and began taking merchandise. 

The individual, described as a known shoplifter, was confronted by a security guard as the group attempted to leave.
 

As they were being escorted out, a store employee stepped in to assist. 

At that point, the suspect allegedly pulled out a knife and swung at the employee, cutting him on the hand before fleeing westbound on Ferry Street.
 

The employee’s injuries were not reported to be life-threatening.

 

Authorities continue to investigate and are urging anyone who can identify the suspect or has information about the incident to contact the Newark Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stoppers tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS.
