Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr. is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect wanted in connection with a shooting that occurred on July 25.
According to information released by the Newark Department of Public Safety, the city’s ShotSpotter system detected gunfire at approximately 7 p.m. in the area of Stratford Avenue between Clinton Avenue and Avon Avenue.
When officers arrived, they canvassed the neighborhood and recovered seven 9mm shell casings.
Investigators said gunfire struck a portable sign, the window of a nearby property, and the window of a vehicle.
The suspect is described as a Black male, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing about 180 pounds, with an athletic build and long dreadlocks.
He was last seen wearing jeans and black sneakers as he fled northbound into Jesse Allen Park.
During the investigation, officers recovered a ripped black T-shirt, a ripped white tank top, and three strands of dreadlock hair believed to be connected to the incident.
