Police Seek Public’s Help Identifying Cell Phone Theft Suspect in Newark

Authorities in Newark request the public's help with identifying the suspect, who was captured on surveillance video taking a victim's cell phone on January 26, 2024.Ad

Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé said the theft occurred at approximately 11:55 a.m. as the victim was walking along the 700 block of Broad Street.

Officials said on surveillance video, the suspect approached the victim from behind, snatched her cell phone, and ran away westbound on Bank Street.

The suspect, a Black male, is approximately 5'6" - 5'8" inches tall with a slim build and dark skin complexion, officials stated.

Authorities say he was wearing a black face mask, a light blue hooded sweater, a navy blue coat, black pants, and tan sneakers.

Director Fragé urges anyone with information about the suspect to call the Police Division's 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477).
