Police Seek Public's Assistance in Locating Hit-and-Run Suspect

The Newark Police Department is appealing to the public for assistance in locating a suspect involved in a hit-and-run incident that occurred on January 1.

The incident took place at around 4:20 a.m. on the 100 block of Washington Street.AdAccording to the police report, a 2006 grey Mercedes Benz, traveling south on Broad Street and crossing Raymond Boulevard, was rear-ended by a white 2009 Mercedes Benz S550.

Following the collision, the two female occupants of the white Mercedes Benz fled the scene. The owner of the grey Mercedes Benz pursued the hit-and-run vehicle until it stopped in the 100 block of Washington Street.

In a twist to the incident, the passenger of the grey Mercedes Benz managed to take a photograph of the two women with her cell phone.

Believing that they were about to exchange information, she exited the vehicle. However, in a startling turn of events, the driver of the white Mercedes Benz again fled the scene, this time striking the victim with the car before escaping.

Director Fragé of the Newark Police Department is urgently requesting anyone with information about the individuals involved to come forward.  

The Police Division has provided a 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line for this purpose, reachable at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). 

The department stresses the importance of community cooperation in apprehending those responsible for this dangerous and irresponsible act.
