Authorities in Newark request the public’s help identifying a male suspect and vehicle in connection with an auto theft that occurred on Tuesday, January 31.

According to officials, just before 2:35 a.m., Police responded to a business in the 1400 block of McCarter Highway on a call of an auto theft.

Officials say a male suspect arrived at the location in an older model silver Honda Civic Coup bearing gold and silver BBS rims, a For Sale sign on the interior passenger-side windshield, and a white sticker on the rear passenger-side window.

The suspect exited the passenger side of the Honda, approached a black 2015 Chevy Suburban with tinted windows parked at the location, and used an object to break the rear driver-side window.

According to Newark Police, the suspect then fled in the stolen Suburban, heading north on McCarter Highway.

Police say detectives investigating this incident seek the public’s help in identifying this suspect, described as heavy-set with long dread locs or long hair and a beanie-style hat.

He was wearing a white shirt, dark-colored jacket, light-colored jeans, and black shoes.
