Newark Police units and NPD-1 joined Hillside in searching for an armed suspect who led police on a foot pursuit on the border on Saturday night.
According to a preliminary investigation, Hillside police began to chase a suspect reportedly armed with a gun when the assailant eluded cops on foot and began to jump fences in the area of Grumman and Maple.
Police believe that the suspect's weapon was discharged during the chase, but no injuries were reported.
Officers located the weapon, but it is unclear if police arrested the suspect.
The incident is under investigation.
