Police in Newark are actively searching for the driver of a vehicle that struck a person in the city then reportedly drove away from the scene.
There were life threatening injuries reported for the victim who was struck by a vehicle near the intersection of Bergen Street and 18th Avenue shortly before 9:30 p.m.
Emergency responder arrived to the scene to find the victim suffering critical injuries according to initial reports from the scene.
Police are looking for a grey or white vehicle that drove off after striking the victim.
Newark Police directed questions regarding the incident to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office who they say are handling the investigation.
