The Newark Police Department is urgently requesting the public's assistance in locating a maroon 2020 Toyota Highlander with New Jersey license plate Z99MWW following a carjacking incident involving two male suspects on Sunday, December 10.

The incident occurred around 10:20 p.m. when a male rideshare driver picked up the two suspects at Eckert Avenue near Osborne Terrace.

A verbal altercation ensued between the driver and the suspects, leading to a physical assault against the driver in the 600 block of Bergen Street.

Following the altercation, one suspect commandeered the victim's vehicle and fled north on Bergen Street, while the other suspect departed on foot, heading east on Clinton Avenue.

The victim's vehicle contained personal items, including a cell phone, two debit cards, an AirPod with its case, and other belongings.

Newark police detectives are diligently working on the case and are appealing to the public for help in swiftly locating the stolen vehicle and identifying the perpetrators.

Both suspects are described as Black males, with the first suspect being approximately 5'10" tall, dressed in a red jacket blue jeans, and sporting braided hair.

The second suspect is around 5'8" tall, wearing a yellow traffic vest, blue jeans, and a dark hat, and also has long braided hair.
