Police Release Image of Vehicle Occupied by Suspect That Struck Newark Police Officer

Newark Police have issued an image of the silver Toyota Matrix Crossover Utility Vehicle (CUV) that struck an officer of the 3rd Precinct on Sunday.

Police said at approximately 7:51 a.m., the officer was retrieving items from his personal vehicle when the CUV collided with him and his vehicle, causing the officer to be thrown toward his vehicle.

The suspect vehicle stopped momentarily before ignoring the officer’s commands to stop and pull over.

The CUV accelerated traveling east on Market Street authorities said.

The officer is 46 years old and has served the Newark Police Division for 15 years.

He was transported to University Hospital for treatment and has been released.

While police are actively searching for the vehicle, we seek the public’s assistance in quickly locating the owner.
