Police Recover Several Weapons After Brief Pursuit in Newark

A vehicle failing to stop for police in the 300 block of South 12th Street  came to a halt when several suspect fled the vehicle on foot a few blocks away. 

Several motor vehicle violations had officers attempt to pull over the vehicle on South 12th Street  at around  1:30 a.m. when the vehicle sped-off, forcing units to follow the vehicle to the 700 block of South 12th Street where several male suspects bailed from the vehicle and fled the scene. 

A foot pursuit and a search of the area had the suspects escape capture. 

A search of the vehicle had officers reportedly locate a shotgun and multiple other weapons.

Within the last two weeks, law enforcement authorities have confiscated several dozen weapons off the streets of the city with arrests reported. 

An investigation is underway by the Newark Police. 

In a separate incident, police cornered a suspect in a backyard of a house in Newark's West Ward after a vehicle pursuit that touched on a portion of the Garden State Parkway, turned into a foot pursuit. Police captured the male suspect on Hollywood Ave.
