Two suspects were taken into custody and charged with assaulting a police officer during a pursuit in Newark’s South Ward overnight.
Police began following an Audi occupied by two suspects wanted for assault on officers earlier Wednesday evening.
The driver of the vehicle ignored officers’ lights and sirens and began speeding through several neighborhoods and busy streets in the South Ward.
The suspects bailed from the car and began to flee on foot in the 200 block of Johnson Avenue.
Officers caught the pair and arrested them near 285 Johnson Avenue without further incident.
The incident is under investigation.
