A police pursuit that began in Bergen County following a reported burglary ended early Saturday morning when a fleeing vehicle crashed at the Route 17 and Route 4 interchange in Paramus, prompting a search for multiple suspects.
Initial reports indicated that the incident began shortly before 1 a.m. when officers in Franklin Lakes initiated a foot pursuit of suspects wanted in connection with a reported burglary at a post office on Franklin Avenue.
The pursuit quickly escalated after the suspects entered a vehicle and fled.
Police tracked the vehicle through Oakland, where officers continued the chase southbound on Interstate 287 before it entered Route 208 south near Route 4 in Fair Lawn.
At approximately 1:19 a.m., the fleeing vehicle crashed at the Route 17 and Route 4 interchange in Paramus.
Firefighters and Paramus Rescue were initially dispatched for a reported vehicle extrication, but responding crews later determined that no extrication was necessary.
Dispatch reports indicate at least one suspect, described only as a male wearing a hoodie, fled the crash scene on foot.
Additional suspects were also reported to have fled, with officers conducting an extensive search of the surrounding area, including near the BJ’s Wholesale Club.
Fire department personnel were instructed to stage nearby until police secured the scene.
Authorities have not yet released information regarding any arrests, injuries, or the circumstances surrounding the reported burglary investigation.
The incident remains under investigation by law enforcement.
