Police Officials Urge Residents to Report Price Gouging In Newark

Officials in Newark announced that unreasonable inflation of the price of any product in response to the COVID-19 spread will not be tolerated.

According to police, the State of New Jersey’s Division of Consumer Affairs has measures in place to prevent retailers from attempting to unlawfully profit from the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

This includes making false or misleading statements regarding the efficacy or effectiveness of any product to protect against or the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Director Ambrose encourages anyone who believes that businesses have unreasonably inflated their prices due to the COVID-19 virus, to file a complaint with the State of New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs online at www.NJConsumerAffairs.gov or call 973-504-6240.

Director Ambrose urges anyone with information about any suspicious or criminal activity to call the Division's 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477).

All anonymous Crime Stopper tips are kept confidential and could result in a reward.
