Authorities in Elizabeth are investigating an incident where a police officer was struck and injured by a vehicle in the city overnight.
Details regarding the incident are developing but according to initial reports, EMS rushed to the 100 block of Washington Avenue shortly before 11:30 p.m. where they found an officer suffering serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle.
The officer was transported to an area hospital under police supervision reports said. The condition of the officer has not been released as of 4:30 a.m.
Residents in the area of Washington and Race Streets observed a massive police presence at around midnight where one person was located in the neighborhood and taken away in handcuffs.
There were also reports of gunfire during the incident where residents said they heard what sounded like loud popping noises during the incident.
