Police Officer Struck by Stolen Car in Newark's Central Ward

Newark

A police officer was rushed to University Hospital for treatment after suffering injuries when a stolen vehicle struck the cop in a section of the city's Central Ward on Tuesday.

The late-night incident happened at approximately 11 p.m. in the 600 block of Martin Luther King Boulevard (High Street).

A preliminary investigation indicated a neighboring police department was in a high-speed pursuit of a stolen vehicle that made its way into Newark.

The driver of the white Mercedes GLC barrelled his way down several streets in Newark's South and Central wards before the vehicle crashed into an officer near 685 Martin Luther King Boulevard.

Police located the unoccupied car on Livingston Street a short time later.

Newark Police has not released the condition of the officer at this time.
