A Newark police sergeant was taken to University Hospital suffering non-life threatening injuries after attempting to arrest a fleeing suspect overnight.
The incident took place shortly before 2 a.m. in the 300 block of South 18th Street when the sergeant was reportedly struck by a vehicle while in pursuit of a suspect.
The suspect was apprehended a short distance away.
